The only person who determines what you do with your life is you! YOU can make a difference. The more you expect from yourself, the more you will accomplish. Start by raising your expectations and aim high – this will push you to accomplish more.
Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were growing up? Dreams of becoming an astronaut, doctor, even the president. As we grow older, we may make the mistake and settle for less. But why settle, when there is still time to achieve your goals and dreams?
If you set high expectations for yourself, you will most likely rise to the challenge.
Set High Expectations
Sadly, we occasionally have low expectations for ourselves. Fear of failure prevents us from setting high goals. Remember what your parents used to tell you? “I believe in you. You can do anything.” They were right – you can absolutely do anything you set your mind to.
Establish Goals for Yourself
Take on challenges! Tackle the most hard ones first. By doing this, overtime, you will be successful in making your dreams become a reality. Make your goals very specific. For example, elevating your career. Focus your energy and try excelling in ways that get you noticed. Begin by setting new goals and expectations for yourself. Don’t settle for anything less than your best.
Step outside of your comfort zone and embrace what challenges you the most. Instead of avoiding difficult tasks or situations, meet them head on with optimism and excitement!
Today, try setting some new goals. Start out small. It may take time, but you can slowly work your way up to conquering that goal.
For example, if you want to run your first marathon, you must prepare for weeks – even months in advance. Begin by setting a training schedule. Each day commit to finishing a small achievement, similar to taking baby steps. You will work your way up to the ultimate goal of long distance running. At the end of all the training, you will have accomplished the goal of running your first marathon!
Learn as You Go
As you work towards your goal, you may find yourself learning new skills and experiencing new situations. This is a way for you to become more open and adaptable to whatever is thrown your way! It is also a great way to exercise your mind.
Take it Day by Day
Avoid setting too many goals for yourself and focus on one thing at a time. Instead, focus all your energy on one goal by making it a priority. Push yourself and celebrate your successes!
A simple way to begin achieving your goals is to make a list with daily questions for yourself. For example, your list could look like this:
Today, I Expect Myself To…
- Stay positive throughout the day.
- Do one good deed.
- Spend less time on social media.
- Learn something new.
As a reminder, write it down on a post it so it is something you can see each day. As you complete each goal, check it off the list! If you are unable to complete the list, don’t worry – you can try again tomorrow. Stay focused and don’t worry, you’ll get there.
In order to be a better you, start expecting more from yourself today!
- Set a challenging goal and make note of your progress.
- Hold yourself accountable.
- Share your goals with others, as they may be able to help you along the journey and serve as encouragement.
- Always remember; believe in yourself, you can do anything!
- Celebrate your success!
